Polyphenylene sulphide production in plastics & polymers production
Advanced Instrumentation for Continuous Flow and Pressure Measuremnts in PPS Production
Polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) is a high-temperature resistant, especially robust thermoplastic high performance plastic for highly durable moulded parts, for example in the electronics and vehicle sector, for pump bodies or medical equipment. During the industrial manufacturing process, PPS is polymerised in the reactor by the reaction of dichlorobenzene with sodium sulphide in a polar solvent under increased temperature and pressure conditions. The result is a suspension that contains PPS and sodium chloride. The sodium chloride has yet to be removed to create PPS resin that is free from chlorine and sodium. To this end, the suspension is concentrated in an evaporation process during which the sodium chloride is removed in repeated filtering and wash processes. The PPS end product is then pulverised and packed for further processing.
KROHNE has a wide product range of level, flow, (differential) pressure and density measuring equipment for plastic and polymer products, which can be perfectly tailored to the respective technical tasks. These include, for example, our radar level meters for continuous, precise and non-contact level measurement in storage and process tanks, even with poorly reflective media. Appropriately equipped vortex flowmeters from our range allow not only simultaneous temperature and pressure measurement, but also output of the p- and T-compensated mass flow. And KROHNE's innovative electronic differential pressure transmitters for obtaining fast, undistorted measuring data are a practical alternative to diaphragm seal installations with long capillary tubes. The main advantage of an eDP system is the fact that it can be easily and efficiently connected to the tank: smaller process connections without capillaries are possible between the top and bottom gauge connections, which saves money and installation time.
